Blood Pressure Control

Dr Kleanthous Angeliki - HypertensionBlood pressure is a measure of the force that your heart uses to pump blood around your body. Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is given as 2 numbers, systolic which is the higher and diastolic which is the lowest figure.

Hypertension is diagnosed when your blood pressure measurements are above 135/85 mmHg. It is often related to non-healthy lifestyle behaviors like smoking habit, lack of exercising, unhealthful eating and alcohol excess. This condition is usually asymptomatic, but it could be present with general symptoms as headache, visual disturbances and dizziness. If left untreated, hypertension can increase your risk of developing a number of serious long-term conditions, such as coronary heart disease, kidney disease and retinal damage.

Low blood pressure is less common than hypertension and can be caused by dehydration, heart failure and can also be observed as a side effect of some medications.

MedCare Clinic clinic offers control of blood pressure by diagnosing, monitoring and treating patients with either high or low blood pressures. We use ambulatory blood pressure measurements by using holter equipment and also screen our patients for hypertension-associated complications.
